My cat has crusted, black poop stuck to the pink skin around her anus. I couldn't get it off even when I tried wiping/pulling with baby wipes & water? Please help.

Once the stool is dried and stuck to the skin, it can be difficult and painful to remove. Clipping or shaving it is not recommended as your cat could react negatively and you may accidentally cause injury. If your cat will allow, apply a warm compress to the area for 10-15 minutes. Once the stool has softened, you should be able to safely remove it. If not, consider a visit to your veterinarian for additional assistance. There could be an underlying medical condition for [soft stool](https://www.petcoach.co/article/the-real-scoop-what-is-your-cat-s-poop-telling-you/), if present, or [lack of grooming](https://www.petcoach.co/article/why-has-my-cat-stopped-grooming) which may be contributing to the issue.

The best thing you can do in these situations is to keep the area as clean as possible. I would trim the hair around the rectum as this would make the area easier to clean. If you are able to clean the area thoroughly at least once then you can apply a thin layer of Vaseline to the rectum to prevent the feces from getting stuck. This will make it easier to keep clean as well. You may also try using a warm, wet wash cloth on the area to help loosen the feces that is caked on. If you are unable to get the area clean yourself I am sure your veterinarian’ office would be happy to help. Typically an exam fee is not even charged for something like this. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
