What does it mean when my dog is foaming from the nose and mouth?

Your dog may have ingested something bitter or toxic, burned or otherwise irritated his mouth or could be nauseated. I recommend getting him seen by your vet right away for an exam and treatment if needed.

I recommend to have Mojo examined by the veterinarian. Foaming at the mouth can indicate nausea, an ulcer in the mouth/GI tract, a bad tooth or even something like rabies (which would be uncommon in a vaccinated dog but it's still on the list of possibilities and can spread to humans). Play it safe and have him examined today.

My Maltese started foaming at the mouth. He is up on all of his shots. I recently got a kitten. Could that have anything to do with it? He’s been around cats all his life.

My doggie is 10 months old and hes foaming out his mouth im really worried
I can understand being worried. Foaming out of the mouth is never a good sign. The immediate concern I have is rabies. If he's never been vaccinated against rabies, there's a potential he could have it if he came into contact with a rabid animal recently. It could also be that he is nauseous or has a dental problem. Because I can't see him in person to rule out rabies and because I don't know his vaccine status, do not handle him if he's not vaccinated. Call your local animal control for help with him. Isolate him from other people and animals until they get there. Now if he is fully vaccinated against rabies, then he won't have it but I would still have him seen by a vet today. My dog Tucky has foam around lip and keeps licking around his mouth with his tongue is this normal?
No, this isn't normal. Foaming around the mouth can be a sign of nausea, poisoning, difficulty swallowing, poor dental hygiene, and even rabies. If Tucky is vaccinated for rabies, then it is extremely unlikely that would be a cause of the hyper salivation. Licking the lips is also a sign of nausea. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he continues to foam at the mouth in the absence of food, on the bland diet, or becomes lethargic he will need to see a vet.

How cute is Buddy! It is possible that Buddy may have came in to contact with a bug, frog/toad, or some foreign material in his mouth while he was sniffing underneath the bush that caused him to foam at the mouth. Some frogs or bugs will release an irritating substance when they feel threatened by a predator; this can cause excessive salivation and "foaming" if it comes in to contact with the mouth. Typically these are harmless, but there are some toxic toads (i.e. Bufo toad)depending on your location. There is the potential that Buddy could have been stung by an insect that caused these signs, too. Since Buddy was back to normal by the time you arrived home, I would suspect it was harmless. I would just keep a close eye on Buddy when he is nosing around the bushes again.

There are a couple of things that cause foaming at the mouth. These include upset stomach (nausea), stress, illness, poisoning, exposure to foul-tasting substances, or dental disease. For now, I would monitor Shreder. Try to get him to drink some cool water, as he needs to stay hydrated. If he is still foaming at the mouth in the morning, I would take him into the vet to determine what is the cause of the foaming at the mouth, and how to treat it. If Shreder starts vomiting, becomes extremely lethargic, vomits water, shows difficulty breathing, or begins to have diarrhea, I would take him into your vet right away.

Hello. In general you shouldn't have too many concerns with a ball in the face as long as it isn't too hard. If he is active and normal, and no bleeding I wouldn't be too concerned. Check to make sure he has no broken teeth and if they are broken they may need to come out, otherwise as long as he is normal don't worry. If he vomits, acts lethargic, or tremors/shakes he could have brain swelling but that is very unlikely.

Oh dear! This sounds extremely serious - your dog may be having a seizure, or may have a serious illness or ingested something toxic. I'm afraid there is really nothing you can do at home for a problem this serious, so the best advice I can give you is to take your dog to the nearest veterinarian immediately. I would be concerned that he may die without immediate veterinary care.

Nausea and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Lily evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start her on medications to make her feel better and check her hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Well, it sounds like Blake is either sick or could potentially have a wound in his mouth. Anytime there is a dog acting abnormal with foam in the mouth it is important to know if he has been vaccinated for rabies. If not- call your veterinarian immediately. If he has been vaccinated then I would encourage you to look in his mouth with a flash light. Look under the tongue and all through the mouth for a wound. If there is no oral wound then that makes me more concerned that he is sick. In that case I think you may need to try to find a way to have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible .
