While more common in dogs, saliva mucoceles (sialocele) can happen in cats. This is usually a swelling under the tissue that is caused by a build up of saliva formed by the salivary glands. Depending on the location, if this swelling is bothering your cat, it may cause an increase in drooling, and may irritate your cat where they try to scratch at or shake off the bother. If the sialocele is in a bad location, it may also effect eating and drinking. If you have not already, having your cat examined by your local vet is best. They can determine the location of the problem, and may recommend treatment depending on its severity, location and if it is causing symptoms. If your cat seems very bothered by it, then treatment may be needed.
