Panting is a common side effect of prednisone, so unfortunately it will probably continue as long as he is taking this medication at her current dose. If it's bothersome to him or you, I would recommend calling his regular vet in the morning to discuss your concerns - you may be able to decrease Satchmo's dose or discontinue the medication earlier than planned, but I would not do this without speaking to your vet first because it could be dangerous depending on his underlying medical condition.

Definitely, panting is a side effect of prednisone. However, the thing that concerns me a bit is that prednisone takes about 24 hours to reach therapeutic levels, so I would watch Jazz closely to be sure that no other concerning signs develop. Increased thirst, increased respiration, increased urination, and increased appetite are all common side effects of pred. I would not be too worried with this development, and hopefully your vet has prescribed a pretty short course so that she won't be on it long, and her allergies will quickly be under control.
