Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

I'm 22 weeks pregnant, will me or the baby get roundworms? They seem to be gone after I gave her medicine.

Just make sure that you wear gloves and/or wash your hands if you clean up any of your dogs feces. If your puppy has an accident in the house make sure you thoroughly clean the area. It might be a good idea to confine her to an area that is easy to clean until you know she is negative for parasites. Take a fecal sample to your vet after she is finished treatment to make sure she is negative for parasites

Congrats on the baby! While roundworms do pose a significant risk to humans, there are a few things you can do to keep yourself and your baby safe. You can get roundworms from contact with feces and contact with contaminated soil. Don't pick up any dog feces during your pregnancy, and avoid areas where you know dogs have popped (like dog parks). Wash your hands thoroughly after petting your dog (it's still ok to pet Munchie), or after handling soil. A monthly parasite control product effective against roundworms is recommended to treat potential new infections. Use a worming tablet every month with your dog to prevent new infestations of worms. Many heartworm medications also control roundworms so ask your veterinarian about prevention and treatment choices.
