I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. If your other dogs are adults (over 2 years old) and current on their vaccinations, it is very unlikely that they would get parvo - this is almost always a disease of unvaccinated puppies. But, if you have other puppies or young dogs in the house, especially if they are not current on vaccines, then I would be concerned that they may catch it. The virus lives in the environment for years, so I would recommend cleaning everything that your puppy came into contact with using a diluted bleach solution.

I am so sorry your dog died from parvovirus! Unfortunately, parvovirus is extremely contagious, and if your other dogs aren't fully vaccinated for it, there is a good chance they can get it. I recommend taking them into your vet right away to have the vet test them for parvovirus.

Hello. Parvo is a very contagious virus spread through the fecal-oral route. Most puppies vaccinated at 8, 12 & 16 weeks will be able to mount an adequate immune response & either not get the virus or have a milder case of the disease. In addition, the degree of illness is dependent on how much virus a puppy is exposed to & how competent his immune system is in fighting the virus off. Your puppy may be susceptible to the virus, so make sure he has all his vaccinations, do not let him use any of the toys or dishes the sick puppy used ( wash or throw away ), & be careful to not let the littermate play in any areas where the sick puppy may have defecated. Pick up ALL stool in the yard to prevent further contamination. Talk to your veterinarian who can fill in any gaps or missing information including any additional vaccinations the puppy may need. Sadly parvo virus is resilient in the environment and can live for years. Where ever your previous puppy went to the bathroom is where it is most concentrated. If it is a hard surface such as concrete, you can bleach the area to kill the virus. In soil and grassy areas, it is impossible to get rid of it completely. If you get a new puppy, get them vaccinated every 2-3 weeks and keep them indoors to protect them. After 3-4 sets of vaccines, they should be protected enough to start going outside.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your dog to parvo. Parvovirus is very resistant and can live in the environment for up to a year despite attempts to properly disinfect the premises. Personally, I would not even consider taking another puppy/dog into that area for at least 6-8 months and that would only be after I have disinfected everything a couple of times and only brought a fully vaccinated puppy home. Fully vaccinated means that the puppy has had 3 sets of parvo vaccines at 3-4 week intervals starting at 8 weeks of age and ending at 4 months of age. This article has instructions on how to disinfect your home after parvovirus: ( https://www.thesprucepets.com/parvovirus-disinfecting-the-environment-of-parvo-3385003 ) Hope this helps. Best wishes.
