Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 7 years and 10 months old

I had one of my two cats shaved into a lion cut because of matted hair and my other cat is now hissing and growling at him, will this stop soon?

Yes, they will settle down and recognize each other shortly although it could take 2-3days

Yes, it may take a few days but they should stop. You can use a pheromone spray such as Feliway to calm them until then.

The other cat is likely hissing and growling at him because the change of appearance is making him thing there is a new cat in the house . This is called non-recognition aggression. Since your cat left the house to go to a new place and returned, your other cat could be showing territorial aggression. Your cat should settle down in a few days. To help that cat, you can bring in a cat tree, which would give her vertical territory, with a safe place to perch and oversee their territory. You can also try Feliway, a diffuser that helps with cat anxiety. You can get these diffusers from your vet.
