Unfortunately for bad ear infections that often involve bacteria and sometimes yeast, you will need a topical ear medication that contains an antibiotic. Antibiotics require a prescription. This is because antibiotics (whether oral or topical) have to be used judiciously to avoid creating resistant bacteria. You can try researching low cost clinics in your area through this website: www.mypet.com/vet-finder.aspx Or you can try applying for financial assistance through carecredit.com or redrover.org. Best of luck. Ear infections can get worse fairly quickly and are relatively easy to treat with proper medications, so hopefully you can get your dog to the vet soon.

Poor Chunk! Unfortunately, ear infections are very common in dogs, and they do require a visit to the vet. That's because it's not only yeast infections that cause ear infections in dogs, but bacteria and ear mites do as well. In order to treat it properly, the underlying cause has to be diagnosed. There are also no OTC ear medications for dogs; for example, if it was an ear infection caused by a bacteria, that would require antibiotics which are prescription only. It's also very important to have any ear infection examined and treated promptly, as leaving them untreated can lead to hearing loss. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Carefree Credit online. http://www.carefreecredit.co.uk https://www.rspca.org.uk/whatwedo/vetcare http://www.easipetcare.com

Hi, it appears your dog has an ear infection, most commonly a yeast infection in his ears. You will need to pay for an initial exam for him, then ear medication and possibly a cleaner. You will need an antibiotic ointment to put into the canals. The cost of this varies from location and from vet hospital. You should call around different hospitals and see what their fees are. If you are looking for a low cost clinic, you can search for one in your area that may be able to help. The ASPCA is NYC is a low cost clinic that you can try calling. In your area, an exam varies from around $60-80 and the medication is about $30-40. This is at a regular vet. Also, the humane society in NYC does low cost care as well. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Unfortunately, there are no home remedies for an ear infection in a dog, and he does have to see a vet as soon as possible. Dogs do not get wax in their ears like humans do, so what you are seeing is a build up of either bacteria, yeast, or ear mites. It's very important to have any ear infections treated promptly, as leaving them can lead to hearing loss. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/trouble_affording_pet.html?credit=web_id91754962 https://www.redrover.org https://www.carecredit.com

Unfortunately, it is illegal for the experts at Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to give the dose information for any drug without seeing an animal in person first. In addition, oral antibiotics are not used to treat ear infections in dogs. A dog's ear has a poor blood supply, and the concentrations in the blood will not be enough to treat the infection. Finally, an ear infection in a dog can also be caused by ear mites and yeast, not just bacteria, so antibiotics may not be the correct treatment for it. You will have to take Spike into the vet first thing in the morning. The vet can confirm he does have an ear infection, diagnose what is causing the infection, and can prescribe medication to treat it. Any ear infection would be examined and treated promptly, as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss.
