Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old
My dog drank water from a toilet that has a thing in it to clean it every flush. She didn't drink much and isn't throwing up yet. What should I do?

I think she will be ok. If she has not shown any signs of stomach trouble, or gagging or similar signs of problems, there is probably nothing to worry about. Usually those cleaners are not so toxic anymore, at worst, they are caustic. If that cleaner had been caustic, then your dog would have shown problems right away. (drooling, gagging, etc.)

Hello, and thank you for your question. I looked up the ingredients in the Vanish tablet. The ingredients are equivalent to mild dishwater (a bit soapy), so you may notice some mild vomiting, but I would not expect more serious signs. If you do notice a bit of vomiting, try fasting him for about 8 hours, then start feeding small frequent meals of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and white rice. If he starts to exhibit more profuse vomiting and/or diarrhea, I would take him to the vet for supportive care (fluid therapy, stomach protectants, etc). I hope this helps, and that Stella does well!

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your concern about Bentley! I understand being concerned about him. Usually these cleaners are not so toxic anymore, but they can be caustic. If the cleaner had been caustic, you would have seen a reaction right away. This would have included symptoms such as drooling and gagging. I'm not sure how long ago she drank it, but if she isn't showing any signs of vomiting at the moment, she may be ok. Just keep an eye on her for now, and give her lots of fresh water to just dilute the mixture even further. If you do see some mild stomach upset, I can give you a home remedy to try. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
