The gestation period is anywhere from 57-65 days and pets typically will drop their temperature below 100 degrees Fahrenheit 24 hrs before the labor process, so this is normal. You should expect puppies soon! Make sure that mom has a nice warm, cushioned, slightly isolated nest to have her puppies. Here is more information about birthing puppies http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=678 But in general you should expect puppies to be delivered within 30-45 minutes after contractions start.

Temperature seems to be dropping, she must be close to labor, it will probably start in the next 48 hours.

The temperature is rather low, which does suggest very early stage of the labour. Dogs usually go into labour within 24hrs from when the temperature drops, so hopefully she will start contracting very soon. If she doesn't go into a labour within the next 24hrs, you will have to take her to your local vets.

A dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F, and when it drops below 100F, a dog should give birth within 24 hours. It could be that you are accidentally sticking the thermometer in feces giving the lower temperature, but it is concerning Missy's temp has been below 100F for four days with no signs of puppies. I would have her seen by a vet immediately. If that temperature is accurate, she may need medication or a c-section to help her deliver her puppies safely.

Typically speaking, about 60-65 days gestation is normal for dogs. As of now, Blossoms temperature has dipped well below normal which is somewhat typical for animals preparing to give birth. Usually they don't dip quite that far below normal, so I would continue to monitor that situation to make sure it doesn't get much lower. The temperature of dogs is a great monitoring tool to determine when and if they plan to deliver the pups. Usually, once this drops occurs, the pups will be on their way within 24 hours. One important note, Chihuahuas are well known for their difficulty giving birth on their own. Many times, the heads of their young are too large to pass through their tiny birth canals. If you know anything about Blossom's parents or her previous breeding history, I would take this into account before letting her whelp on her on. If you begin to see her having any struggles at all, I would take her to a vet. Let me know if you are in need of any further consultation. Good luck to you and Blossom.
