Parvovirus infected dogs are the only carriers of the virus and can continue to shed the virus up to 2 weeks after being infected. Besides this there is no carrier of the virus that exists in healthy pets.

Usually young infected dogs will actually show signs of infection. Older/adult dogs can actually be infected but never actually show clinical signs of disease. Rottweilers, Dobermans, pit bulls, German shepherds and Labrador retrievers seem to be at higher risk for the disease.

It's not common, usually carriers are also showing symptoms of illness.
