NexGard has a large margin of safety if as dog gets or eats multiple doses. Monitor for GI upset and feed a bland diet for a few days to settle the stomach. Your dog will likely suffer no ill effects.

No adverse reactions were observed in healthy Beagle puppies over 8 weeks of age when treated with 5 times the maximum dose repeated 6 times at intervals of 2-4 weeks. She should be fine! Thank you for submitting your question regarding Grace. Nexgard is typically a safe drug. Animal safety studies were performed on Beagle puppies during product development. These dogs received doses up to 5x the standard dose and had no adverse effects. If Grace is otherwise healthy, she should be fine. She can always see her veterinarian though if you are concerned. The good news is that Nexgard is a safe flea medication. Vomiting and diarrhea have been seen when a dog is given five times the recommended dose. If your dogs only had at most two of these dose, then you should not see any adverse effects from it :-)

I gave my 3 week pregnant dog next guard by mistake. What can I do.

While the safe use of NexGard in pregnant, breeding or lactating dogs has not been evaluated, I have not yet heard any specifically adverse effect of Nexguard in pregnant dogs. You have a choice: If you are afraid it may affect the puppies, you can go to a PetER and have the vet give her apomorphine to regurgitate the Nexgard, This will only work, if she ingested it within the past two hours. Or you can do nothing and hope all is well.

He should be OK. Don't give him the next dose of the medications until March 1st and even then, it is best to give one drug one day, wait a few days and then give the other. Giving them at the same time may be too hard on his system.

My puppy got a Nexgard chewing pill a few days ago. Since then she had mucousy diarrhea and doesn't want to eat at all. What should I do with her?

That could happen after administration of Nexgard, even though is quite unusual and it is more likely to be dietary related. I would suggest to withhold food for the next 4 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

My dog is on Nexgard every 30 days. I realized she has gained 2 lbs in the last few months, so I’ve been underdosing her on the Nexgard by accident. Will she still be protected by fleas if she’s just 1-2 lbs over the dose weight? Or will she require

She'll probably be fine for this month if she's just a pound or two over. But in the future, if she's gained a bit of weight and is now borderline or just over the maximum weight for her current dose, I would get the next size up. Nexgard has a very wide margin of safety, so the manufacturer recommends "rounding up" if a dog is near the upper limit of the weight range. :)

Hi there. Trifexis has a very wide margin of safety (a dog could eat an entire box and not have any serious issues, in most cases), so it's unlikely that this will cause any problems. The most likely side effect would be vomiting or GI upset, in the first day or two after taking the meds. If she's acting normal so far, you probably won't see any issues at all. It's fine for her to continue with her normal daily routine as far as eating, exercising, etc.

Hello and thank you for your post! This combination will not likely cause any side effects. Ideally only one should be given at a time but not nexgard and frontline together should be ok. I would, however, monitor your dog for any symptoms such as tremors, seizures, excessive salivation, lethargy and get your dog seen as soon as possible by an emergency vet for treatment. I gave both of my dogs dog md topical flea preventive 4 days ago and it did not help with the fleas. Can I safely give them nexguard or should I wait?

It is better if you wait at least two weeks in between medications. Most of the tick and flea products manufacturers do not recommend using more than one preparation at the same time. It is hard to predict what side effects could develop if two similar products are used at the same time. If you want to call Nexguard's 800 number (should be on the box) and tell them what product you already applied they may tell you it's OK. Don't forget to treat the house and/or yard for fleas. This will help tremendously. I suggest Knockout Spray ES for the house and Advantage II yard spray. You can buy these online without a prescription. Also, don't forget to treat every pet in the household for fleas too!
